Italy: Scholarships for the PhD Program in Business Administration, University of Bologna
The PhD program in Business Administration of the University of Bologna trains brilliant researchers in the fields of management, by offering courses in several areas such as organization theory, business strategy, marketing, technology and innovation management, research methods, statistics, econometrics. In addition to the courses, PhD students have the opportunity to attend seminars held by internationally renowned scholars, present their work at conferences, spend a research period of at least 6 months in international academic institutions. The courses are held in English. The PhD in Business Administration (3-year program) is organized by the Department of Management of the University of Bologna (www.sa.unibo.it), in cooperation with the University LUISS Guido Carli of Rome and the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia.
In order to apply, a Master degree (laurea specialistica/magistrale) is required. The 2009 edition of the PhD in Business Administration (24th cycle) will start in January 2009. 10 students will be admitted to the program and 5 scholarships will be offered. The number of scholarship-assisted places may increase thanks to the financial support of public or private institutions. The net amount of the scholarship is around 1000 Euro per month, for a 3-year period. PhD in International Studies, University of Trento
The University of Trento, is now inviting applications for its three-year doctoral programme in International Studies. The programme focuses on the study of International Law, International Economics and International Politics. It will be composed of at least 200 hours of structured coursework; a period of study outside Italy, and a dissertation, written under the supervision of faculty members and an external reader. All coursework will be in English and will be taught by members of the university’s multi-national faculty. Starting with the academic year 2008-2009 significant changes will be introduced to the programme of studies. Students interested in applying to the programme are advised to carefully read the annoucement of selection.

Candidates from other disciplinary backgrounds may also apply, provided that their research project clearly falls within the field of international studies.
Students who intend to carry out research in the following areas are particulalrly encouraged to apply: European and International Politics; European, Comparative and International Law; Open Economy Macroeconomics, International Trade and International Financial History. One scholarship will be reserved for applicants with a research project in the area of trans-national crime. An additional scholarship is reserved for candidates with a research project in the area of politics of European and regional integration.
Language Requirements
The programme is conducted entirely in English and an excellent working knowledge of that language, including a proven writing ability, is an indispensable requirement for admission. Foreign students are required to obtain a working knowledge of the Italian language.

Applications must include :
* a photocopy of the applicant’s identity card or passport;
* a curriculum vitae in English;
* a research proposal (max 5 pages/2500 words) in English, in one of the areas studied in the International Studies programme. Candidates who also wish to be considered for one of the scholarships reserved for the fields of “Trans-National Crime” or “ Politics of European and Regional Integration”, must clearly indicate the field on the first page of their project;
* Applicants who hold a foreign degree should attach their degree certificate(s) and grade transcript(s) both in the original language and in English,

Scholarships
The programme offers a limited number of full scholarships renewable for three years subject to satisfactory academic appraisal. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of merit, meaning that they will be offered to the top candidates of the final ranking. One scholarship will be reserved for applicants with a research project in the area of Trans-national Crime. An additional scholarship is reserved for candidates with a research project in the area of the Politics of European and Regional Integration.
Tuition Fees
The PhD programme currently does not charge tuition fees. Admitted students however are required to pay an annual student tax to the amount of roughly €120,00.
Residence Requirement
Studying for a PhD programme is a full-time commitment and we expect all our students to take up residence in the area. Students re required to be resident in Trento for 24 months during the 3-year programme. A limited number of subsidised apartments will be made available to foreign students. An orientation day will be held in September 2008 and coursework will start towards the end of that month.

The faculty of Sociology of the University of Trento seeks to appoint a full-time associate professor in the field of International Relations, starting in the academic year 2008-2009. It is a tenured position with the salary and conditions of an Italian associate professor.
Candidates should have a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline, an excellent publication record and an equivalent position in a (non-Italian or Italian) university. A proven ability to attract outside funding will be highly considered. The successful applicant will contribute to teaching and research in the field of International Relations, in particular in the field of international institutions and regimes. Candidates who can also contribute in the area of the EU’s global role are encouraged to apply.

Italy: PhD Scholarships in Economics and Industrial Organization, University of Bergamo
Applications are invited for the PhD program in Economics and Industrial Organization at the University of Bergamo, Department of Economic Studies “Hyman P. Minsky”.
The PhD in “Economics and Industrial Organization” (Dottorato di Ricerca in “Economia ed Organizzazione Industriale”) is an advanced program whose objective is to train professional researchers in Economics, with possible career paths both in the academic field and in public or private firms and organizations.
The program is articulated on three years. English is the teaching language. First year: Full-time attendance to courses and dissertation design. Second year: Research work. A period of no less than 6 months of supervised work at a foreign research institution is compulsory during this year. Third year: Thesis completion.
Ongoing cooperation exists with the following Universities and Research Institutions: Oxford University (UK), Cass Business School - City University of London (UK), University of Kent (UK), Utrecht University (NL), Copenhagen Business School (Druid) (DK), Washington University St. Louis, Missouri (USA), IRER (Milan, IT), Erasmus University - Rotterdam (NL)
Candidates must hold a five-year or four-year degree issued by an Italian University (or an equivalent non-Italian degree). Degrees in Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering and Political Science are among the most appropriate for this Program. Candidates must pass an admission test, including a written and oral test on Economics subjects. (See the Guidelines for Admission) A number of max 3 candidates will be accepted. Two scholarships of 42.000 euros over the three years are available, to cover living expenses and tuition fees.

The PhD in “Economics and Industrial Organization” (Dottorato di Ricerca in “Economia ed Organizzazione Industriale”) is an advanced program whose objective is to train professional researchers in Economics, with possible career paths both in the academic field and in public or private firms and organizations.
The program is articulated on three years. English is the teaching language. First year: Full-time attendance to courses and dissertation design. Second year: Research work. A period of no less than 6 months of supervised work at a foreign research institution is compulsory during this year. Third year: Thesis completion.
Ongoing cooperation exists with the following Universities and Research Institutions: Oxford University (UK), Cass Business School - City University of London (UK), University of Kent (UK), Utrecht University (NL), Copenhagen Business School (Druid) (DK), Washington University St. Louis, Missouri (USA), IRER (Milan, IT), Erasmus University - Rotterdam (NL)
Candidates must hold a five-year or four-year degree issued by an Italian University (or an equivalent non-Italian degree). Degrees in Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering and Political Science are among the most appropriate for this Program. Candidates must pass an admission test, including a written and oral test on Economics subjects. (See the Guidelines for Admission) A number of max 3 candidates will be accepted. Two scholarships of 42.000 euros over the three years are available, to cover living expenses and tuition fees.
