The George Scott Travelling Scholarship

The George Scott Travelling Scholarship is awarded by the College of Humanities and Social Science on behalf of the Senatus and is open to candidates undertaking postgraduate study at the University of Edinburgh.

Applicants must hold a University of Edinburgh Master of Arts Degree of not more than three years’ standing. In 2007/2008, priority will be given to applicants undertaking postgraduate study in History.

If no suitable application is received for an award in these disciplines, the scholarship may be awarded in other subject groupings in the following order of priority; Classical Languages/Classical Archaeology; Mental Philosophy, Semitic and Indian Languages; English and Modern Languages.

The purpose of the award is to assist candidates in travelling for study or research. The amount awarded will not exceed £5,700 in total and may be divided between two or more applicants. Successful applicants will be expected to submit a written report on the work undertaken and to present the findings in a manner agreed by the subject area concerned, eg seminar or lecture.

All applications should be received by Wednesday 31 May 2007. The names and addresses (including e-mail addresses) of two academic referees should also be included.
