Politics and International Studies

Located within a highly successful and modern research and teaching university, the department is one of the largest in the UK. The department benefits from both its position at the heart of the country and from its diverse student body – with overseas students accounting for up to 15 per cent of undergraduates and 65 per cent of postgraduate students.

The department has an outstanding reputation for research in a number of areas within the fields of politics and international studies, including international political economy, globalisation and regionalisation, European politics and policy, democratisation, political theory and political systems. The department received a 5 in the latest Research Assessment Exercise and a maximum 24/24 for Teaching Quality Assurance.

The department offers a number of undergraduate degree programmes, taught Masters programmesin international political economy, international relations, politics, Europe, globalisation and development and East Asia, and supervision for doctoral studentsacross a range of subjects in politics and international studies.

The department has been consistently ranked amongst the top 10 departments for politics/international studies in various Good University Guides and came second in the 2006 The Times Good University Guideranking of Politics departments.
