MALDEF Scholarship

The Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund offers an amazing scholarship opportunity for students interested in pursuing a law degree.

The MALDEF Law School Scholarship is open to law students who are entering their first, second or third year of law school.

In order to qualify for the award, students must be enrolled full-time in law school for the upcoming semester. Scholarships are awarded in the amount of up to $7,000 to deserving individuals.

There are several factors that are considered when determining recipients for the MALDEF Law School scholarship.

First and foremost, applicants must have a demonstrated interest in serving the Latino community via the legal profession. Additionally, both academic and professional achievement will be evaluated when considering applicants.

Financial need will also be taken into consideration when choosing recipients for the scholarship.

In order to apply, there are several items your application must have to be considered for an award. Please complete and sign a MALDEF scholarship application, available on their website.

Applicants must also include a resume, a typed personal statement with specific information, (see website,) and a copy of your official undergraduate transcript. For applicants who have already completed at least one year of law school, you must include a copy of your law school transcript.

Applications must also include a letter of recommendation stating your personal involvement in the Latino community and a letter of recommendation from a college or law school professor.

Finally, a completed financial need statement must be enclosed with your other application materials. Incomplete applications will NOT be reviewed or accepted.
